Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016!

I know this blog post is very close to the last one, but I couldn't resist! Copenhagen was the host city for the 121st IOC Session and XIII Olympic Congress this Thursday and Friday. The city was FULL of famous people...Oprah even ate at the restaurant across the street from my apartment! The cities that were in the running were Chicago, USA, Tokyo, Japan, Madrid, Spain and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I was able to volunteer on Friday for Chicago. A few people got to volunteer Thursday night, and got to meet Brandi Chastain and Nastia Liukin. I was so jealous!! Only about 10 people got to do this though. When I volunteered on Friday, I didn't get to meet any famous people, though I did get to see a bunch of really awesome Danish bands, some of which I surprisingly knew because of Danish class. I also got this really awesome neon orange t-shirt that shows Chicago 2016 on it, which is now a relic, I suppose. At the concert, there was DJ Static, Jooks and wait for it....AQUA!!!! Yes, as in Barbie Girl Aqua. They sang all of their singles, including Barbie Girl and their newest single Back To The 80's.

There were tons of people supporting all 4 cities. The first announcement was made saying that Chicago and Tokyo were eliminated, and the huge crowd went crazyyyy. There were so many American study abroad kids there that they were SO disappointed when Chicago was the first city to be eliminated. The next city to be eliminated was Tokyo, and there were also a lot of Japanese people there. They were all decked out...there was even a group of like 5 or 6 of them that were dressed up like Pikachu. It was one of the funniest things I've seen in a while. Then we were down to the final 2...Madrid and Rio. Madrid was the next one to be eliminated, and the Brazilians went CRAZY. My roommate, Julia, is Brazilian &she went bezerk!! She was so happy that Rio won, it will be the first Olympics in South America. Overall, it was VERY exciting to be there as the president of the IOC announced that Rio would be hosting, and seeing all of the officials from Rio go crazy!
